Brit Lily Miyazaki is knocked out of the US Open in the second round as she loses in straight sets to No15 seed Belinda Bencic in New York

Lily Miyazaki has been knocked out of the US Open in the second round after losing in straight sets to Switzerland’s Belinda Bencic.

Miyazaki went down 6-3 6-3 in New York as she exited the competition, with No15 seed Bencic not looking in any trouble throughout the contest.

The 27-year-old British No7 triumphed in her first round game against Russia’s Margarita Betova on Monday, but the second round proved a step too far as she was knocked out.

Bencic, the current Olympic champion, will be aiming to go far in the competition after reaching the semi-finals in 2019.

She reached the fourth round in the recent Wimbledon, but has enjoyed most of her success in New York and is already into the third round.
