Man Utd and Denmark have ‘agreement’ as Rasmus Hojlund set for debut vs Arsenal

Denmark boss Kasper Hjulmand has revealed an ‘agreement’ is in place with Manchester United regarding Rasmus Hojlund with the striker called up to the national side for their upcoming fixtures. Hojlund is yet to feature for United since his £73million move from Atalanta.

He’s been recovering from a niggling injury with Hojlund pictured out on the training ground last week. Speaking ahead of the match against Nottingham Forest, Erik ten Hag revealed the striker had taken part in his first full training session and was “very near to making the squad”.

United face off against arch-rivals Arsenal this weekend before the international break and it was previously thought Hojlund would play when the season resumes later next month. But Hjulmand has revealed his expectation is that Hojlund will make his debut away at the Emirates this weekend.

“I’ve been in Manchester to watch Rasmus train and he’s in full gear, so he’ll probably be in the squad for the weekend,” Hjulmand said. “There is of course a caveat, and he must show that he is ready this week.”

Part of Hjulmand’s visit to Manchester was seemingly to hold talks with United regarding Hojlund’s fitness ahead of the international break. It’s clearly thought that Hojlund is in a position where he can make a difference for Denmark in their Euro 2024 qualifiers.

And Hjulmand stated there is an ‘agreement’ in place with United that would see Hojlund play some minutes this weekend against Arsenal. “I have been in Manchester and have some clear agreements with the club,” he added.

“He should preferably get some minutes so that we can see that he’s there. He lacks game time, that’s clear, but he’s going to play a role, so we’ll have to see what he can do.”

Hjulmand would have also sought out advice from Christian Eriksen, who scored in Uniteds comeback win over Nottingham Forest at the weekend. Eriksen gave an insight into what he expects from Hojlund earlier this month, stating the forward will need to adapt to the pace of the Premier League.

“He’s really a front-foot guy, who is aggressive and really attack-minded. But, at the same time, a nice guy outside of football,” he said.

“I will definitely [pass my experience of the Premier League on] but he will definitely see it for himself. The Premier League is different compared to any other league he’s been at before. So he’s going to have to adapt. But I’m sure he will adapt quickly.”
