Former Zimbabwe goalkeeper George Chigova has died aged 32.

Chigova suffered a heart attack while training with his club SuperSport United in July. He never fully recovered and is said to have collapsed at his home in South Africa, according to journalist Nuhu Adams.

The shot stopper, affectionately nickname 'Zikeeper', amassed 32 caps for his country on the international stage between 2011 and 2019, which included helping them to a fourth-placed finish at the 2014 Africa Cup of Nations.

Tributes have been paid, with agent Matthew Rusike posting on social media: "Life is precious. Rest easy (Gigcho) @GeorgeChigova you were one hell of a character. We will pray for you. You will be remembered. Rest in peace George Chigova."

TV host Thomas Mlambo wrote: "Rest in peace, George Chigova." His fellow countryman Knowledge Musona, who plays for Saudi Pro League side Al-Riyadh, commented: "So sad to hear about the passing of George Chigova. My heartfelt condolences to the Chigova family. Rest in peace brother."

SuperSport, meanwhile, shared a graphic of him celebrating with the caption: "It is with great sadness that we have learnt of the passing of former SuperSport United player, George Chigova. Rest easy, Zikeeper."

Chigova had been active on social media on Wednesday (November 15) morning, posting a now-heartbreaking message to his Instagram story which read: "Each day is a new blessing. Let go of all worries and be grateful for all the positive in your life."

SuperSport manager Gavin Hunt admitted Chigova's condition "didn't look positive" following his cardiac arrest four months ago. He's believed to have recently returned to training.

He previously played for Polokwane City in South Africa, making 125 appearances across a five-year stay. His final Zimbabwe outing came at the 2019 AFCON tournament.

One of the highlights of his career was saving three penalties in a shootout against Botswana at the 2018 COSAFA Cup, which he and his team-mates went on to win for the second successive year.
