Injured Newcastle star’s twin dresses up as him for League One Xmas party

Oxford United's Josh Murphy hilariously dressed up as his injured Newcastle star twin brother Jacob for their Christmas party.

The siblings, 28, have both forged successful careers in English football – with Jacob a crucial part of Eddie Howe's squad having been with the Magpies since 2017, while Josh currently plays in League One with promotion-chasing Oxford.

The former is currently sidelined with a long-term shoulder injury he suffered after coming on as a substitute in October's Champions League defeat to Borussia Dortmund at St James' Park, which then reoccurred in the 1-0 league win over Arsenal.

And the latter took advantage of that as the Oxford squad enjoyed some festive celebrations at the weekend – donning one of his Newcastle shirts, a pair of black shorts and black socks as well as a sling to complete the look.

His effort was lapped up by fans, with one commenting: "There’s playing the cards you’re dealt, and then there’s just plain genius. Outstanding." Another hailed: "Even popped a shoulder sling on. Superb."

"Looks more like Jacob Murphy than Jacob Murphy," argued a third, while a fourth joked: "Eddie missed a trick here. Could have had Josh on the subs bench instead of Jacob and nobody would have known."

A fifth quipped: "This injury crisis…. hear me out." And a sixth added: "Legitimately I don’t see why we couldn’t use Murphys twin brother for a few games, they’d never know ahaha."

The Murphy's have played against each other before when Newcastle faced Cardiff City in the 2018/19 Premier League season. Jacob is set to be out until February after undergoing surgery on his dislocated shoulder, with his recovery well underway.
