Ex-RB Leipzig and German youth star Agyemang Diawusie dies suddenly aged 25

Former RB Leipzig winger Agyemang Diawusie has tragically died at the age of 25.

Diawusie, a former Germany Under-19s talent, passed away suddenly. His cause of death has not yet been revealed, though German outlet BR24 reports it was due to “natural causes”.

This season saw him turn out for German third-tier side Jahn Regensburg, making 16 appearances across all competitions. Regensburg announced the sad news on Tuesday afternoon in an emotional statement.

It read: "This Tuesday, SSV Jahn received the terrible news that Jahn professional Agyemang Diawusie died at the age of 25. The club is shocked and deeply saddened by this tragic event.

"The Jahn family mourns with the bereaved and their thoughts are with Agyemang's family, relatives, close friends and companions. Because of the terrible situation and out of respect for his family, we ask that their privacy be respected."

Former club Leipzig said: "This news deeply affects us. We mourn the loss of our former player Agyemang Diawusie, who passed away at the age of just 25.

"Our thoughts are with his family, his friends and his club SSV Jahn Regensburg. Rest in peace, Agyemang."

German giants Eintracht Frankfurt tweeted: "We are equally shocked and wish his family and friends a lot of strength during this difficult time. Rest in peace, Agyemang Diawusie."

And Stuttgart added: "We are shocked. Our sincere condolences go out to his family, friends and SSV Jahn. Rest in peace, Agyemang Diawusie."

Diawusie started his career in Regensburg’s academy aged just six. His promise saw him snapped up by Nurnberg and later Leipzig in 2015.

He spent three years with the Champions League side but never made a senior appearance. Yet he was able to earn international caps for Germany’s Under-15s and Under-19s.

Spells at Ingolstadt, Dynamo Dresden and Austrian club SV Ried followed for Diawusie. He dropped down to Germany’s third tier at the start of the year with SpVgg Bayreuth.
