Arsenal fans drink Shearer’s ‘delicious tears’ as Newcastle hero fumes at VAR

Arsenal fans revelled in Alan Shearer's fury as they reminded him of his VAR views after Newcastle's penalty controversy.

Shearer, 53, was left raging after his beloved Toon Army conceded a spot kick in second-half stoppage time of their Champions League tie away at PSG. Tino Livramento was harshly punished for the ball bouncing off his stomach and onto his elbow.

The Match of the Day pundit took to social media to vent his frustrations, fuming: "Do me a f***ing favour man. What a load of s***. #VAR."

He later added: "A superb battling away performance from every single player. Shouldn’t be spoilt by a disgusting decision. Well done @NUFC."

Supporters of Mikel Arteta's Gunners were quick to hark back to Shearer's comments when VAR was the centre of discussion in their 1-0 defeat at St James' Park earlier this month.

He backed the decision to award Anthony Gordon's goal and had also tweeted in the first half of the match: "Well done Ref. You’re the man."

Bringing that post back to his attention, one Arsenal fan told Shearer: "Your tears are delicious…" Another quipped: "Cry me a river."

A third sarcastically replied: “Respect the referee's decision Alan!" While a fourth questioned: "What happened to respecting the refs?"

"But you can’t call out officials!!! Or is that just applicable in the Prem," sarcastically wrote a fifth, and a sixth argued: "Aye what goes around comes around."

Shearer hit back at one Gooner, pointing out that his tweet hadn't been in reference to Gordon's goal. He wrote: "Look when that tweet was during the game then come back to me!!"
