Arsenal Women have failed to qualify for the Champions League following a shock defeat on penalties to Paris FC.
Although Arsenal made it through to the semi-finals last season, they won’t be involved in this season’s competition after losing in Sweden.
Following a goalless first half, Paris took the lead through a header from Mathilde Bourdieu, who added another goal shortly afterwards.

Daphne Corboz put Paris ahead in extra-time, with Russo then netting again in impressive fashion to send the game to penalties.
In the shootout, Russo and Frida Maanum both missed for Arsenal. Daphne Corboz was unable to net for Paris but Louna Ribadeira scored the winning spot-kick.

As reported by Tim Stillman, Arsenal manager Jonas Eidevall said after the game: ‘Obviously it hurts, we knew Paris were a good team and this was going to be a tough game. My priority now is to take care of the players who worked so hard and I’m really proud of how they fought to come back into the game.’
Reflecting on Arsenal’s four day training camp, Eidevall said: ‘It’s a really important time because we have new players and we need to prepare for the season. We are no better or no worse a team than we were yesterday.’
