Ronnie O’Sullivan leaks UK Championship venue change after booking spot in final

Stars attend green carpet for Ronnie O’Sullivan documentary

Snooker legend Ronnie O’Sullivan may have leaked that the UK Championship is moving away from its iconic Barbican Centre venue in York next year. The Rocket reached the final of this year’s edition with a 6-2 win over Iranian star Hossein Vafaei, but was forced to come to terms that he may not be competing on that stage for much longer.

The Barbican took over hosting duties of the Triple Crown event in 2001 and has held the tournament ever since, barring a change in 2020 when the UK Championship was moved to Milton Keynes due to Covid-19 complications.

But speaking to the BBC after the match, O’Sullivan claimed that there could be a change of location next year: “I love the venue. I love the place, York. It helps when you’re in a good city because you can go out and kill your time off, it’s a great venue.

“I’m not sure, I think it might be moving next year but it’s a shame because it’s a great venue for snooker, it’s a good venue and everyone enjoys coming here. It’s a great tournament wherever it goes.”
