Tottenham captain Son Heung-min laid into his team-mates after their latest Premier League collapse, branding their performance ‘unacceptable’ and ‘soft’.

Spurs are the first side in the competition’s history to fail to win five consecutive games despite going 1-0 up in each match, this time losing their lead to West Ham.

Speaking after this 2-1 defeat, Son said: ‘Losing that game is unacceptable. We have got the lead five times in a row now. West Ham are always tough to play against but we were soft.

‘In the Premier League, you don’t know what will happen in the end. You have to kill a game. It’s unacceptable. Players have to take responsibility – the fans don’t deserve this.

‘You have to play with more energy, especially at home. Whether we deserve it or not, we have to move on and bounce back. It’s disappointing for the fans.’

Tottenham have gone from being talked up as title contenders to falling outside of the top four.

Manager Ange Postecoglou said: ‘It’s almost like we’re thinking the ball will go into the net by itself. It won’t. You need to have that determination to do that. You need that determination to keep the ball out of the net at the other end.

‘There’s no point in us feeling sorry for ourselves and looking for a cuddle anywhere. There’s only one way to change our circumstances.

‘I want to win. That’s why I came to this football club. That’s the message.

‘We’ve still got a long way to go. I’ve said that from the start. Days like this just give you further evidence and fuel for how much we need to do. We try to play this football so we can win games and have success, not just to put on a show.’
