Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag defends his agent and hints club may have leak

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has hit back at the suggestion that his agent Kees Vos is too involved in the club’s transfers, while also admitting that he may have a problem inside the dressing room. United have lost four of the last five games as the pressure mounts on the Dutch boss, who spoke ahead of the Red Devils’ upcoming trip to Burnley.

Reports had previously suggested that the club were becoming increasingly concerned with the influence that Vos and his agency Sports Entertainment Group (SEG) have had over United’s summer transfers. Vos founded the agency, while Ten Hag’s son Nigel works for them as an analyst but the head coach has played down talk that it is becoming an issue at Old Trafford.

Vos was a regular visitor to Old Trafford and Carrington over the summer, as Rasmus Hojlund joined his agency shortly before completing a £72million move to United from Atalanta while he also acted on behalf of the club in negotiations for Sofyan Amrabat – in addition to working on starlet Zidane Iqbal’s transfer to FC Utrecht two months after joining SEG.

“It can’t be [conflict of interest] because we make very good agreements about it from the start,” Ten Hag said in his press conference. “How we cooperate in that manner. For player decisions, transfers, it’s always 50-50. We both have a veto: the club, represented by John Murtough, and me. So there can never be a distraction.”

While headlines have continued to be made from within the United dressing room, as some members are said to be unhappy with their head coach – who has been accused of having favourites within the team that he will not single out for criticism.

Ten Hag’s tactics were also slated as he refuses to change system despite not having another left-footed right-winger in the squad after Antony was placed on an indefinite leave of absence amid domestic abuse allegations in Brazil and Mason Greenwood was sent out on loan to Getafe.

In response to those claims about his dressing room having concerns, Ten Hag said: “I don’t know if it’s a leak but I know opinion, I know my players. Everyone can make suggestions, we are okay with it. At United, you have to win every game so it doesn’t change anything. As always, it’s about how we play against Burnley, there’s no easy game, definitely not against Burnley.”
