Cristiano Ronaldo’s manager shoves phone in ref’s face after Al Nassr offside

Cristiano Ronaldo’s manager at shoved a phone into the referee’s face after his side had a goal ruled out by VAR.

There were dramatic scenes in the Saudi Pro League on Friday night between second-place Al-Nassr, captained by Ronaldo, and league leaders Al-Hilal. The top of the table clash ended being won 3-0 by Al-Hilal despite being a man down.

However, one of the most controversial moments in the contest came in the first half when the ex-Manchester United forward thought he had scored. When informed he was actually offside, the irate Al-Nassr boss Luis Castro shoved his phone in the face of an official to try and prove their decision was wrong by showing him a replay of the disputed incident.

Despite automated offside technology demonstrating Ronaldo's knee was marginally offside, Castro was insistent their goal should have stood. Unsurprisingly, the video or picture on his phone did not help his case at all.

After both Ronaldo, Castro and Al Nassr were made to look silly in the derby, the social media world poked fun at both of the pair.

One X user joked: “Abolish the VAR and adopt the Al-Nasr coach’s mobile phone instead!” while another tweeted: “This guy is too funny. A third trolled: “More tears,” while third commented: “Adding a modern twist to contesting referee decisions!”

Others chimed in by adding: “He should be fined,” and “Al-Nassr coach need to be banned this is against the rules of football.” After a flat first-half, Al-Hilal came flying out of the traps in the second.

Former Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic gave Jorge Jesus' side the lead, before ex-Fulham and Newcastle United forward Aleksandar Mitrovic scored a brace in added time to secure a 3-0 victory.

The result saw Ronaldo's side lose even more ground on Hilal, who are now seven points ahead of the ex-Real Madrid man and his team-mates.
