Israel Adesanya showed off his war wounds after conceding his UFC middleweight world title to Sean Strickland inside the Octagon on Sunday.
The result of stunned the MMA world with Adesanya heavy favourite going into the contest but struggling to deal with Strickland’s ring dominance and striking throughout the encounter.
A unanimous decision handed Adesanya his second defeat in three fights as his opponent capitalised on being handed a late call-up to face the ex-champion after Dricus du Plessis pulled out through injury.
Adesanya was too emotional to speak more than two sentences at his post-fight press conference, telling the media, ‘Life throws curveballs at you,’ before leaving but has since reflected on his loss on social media.
The 34-year-old first filmed himself while being driven and lifted up his sunglasses to reveal black swelling underneath his left-eye.

He then proceeds to prod at the facial injury with his finger before revealing the inside of his bottom lip had been cut as well.
His jokey persona also appears to have returned after initially being upset by the loss and narrates while filming himself: ‘I hate losing but I love living.
‘And I’m thriving so, yeah, hang out with the family first, and [then] I’ll address the people. But right now I gotta put me first.’
He pans the video round to show family members in the rear of the vehicle before providing another update an hour later from the confines of a penthouse.
Adesanya delves deeper into his feelings after losing his title belt and proceeds to drink whisky and eat food while family and friends mingle in the background.

His follow-up Instagram story is captioned: ‘You wouldn’t get it,’ alongside an emoji showing a glass of whisky.
The bottle appears to be Japanese and Adesanya proceeds to ‘cheers’ the camera before taking a sip and showing off a half-devoured plate of food.
He states: ‘I love this s***. No matter what, win or lose, surrounded by love, surrounded by great men and that’s why I love this s***.’
The updated finishes by him taking another gulp of the golden spirit before filming himself at a party hours later where he wears sunglasses and sings along on a party bus.
