Hilarious footage has emerged of former Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand being pinned down by a big UFC star.

Ferdinand, 45, was spotted at an MMA gym in Birmingham with the UFC star and had time to grapple with the fighter.

However, the former footballer-turned-pundit was made to regret the decision to wrestle the MMA champion.

In the video, uploaded to the official Team Renegade Instagram page, the ex-footballer was seen struggling on the mat and was unable to get out of the difficult position.

Eventually, after a few seconds on top position, the UFC fighter opted to let Ferdinand go.

The MMA fighter was none other than the current welterweight champion – Leon Edwards

The UFC fighter who appeared in the video is none other than welterweight champion Leon Edwards.

After grappling with the former England defender, the pair were seen sharing a laugh – with both appearing to be in good spirits following the brief scramble.

Edwards is currently preparing for his UFC 296 main event showdown with divisive contender Colby Covington.

The pair are expected to go head-to-head at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday, December 16.

‘Rocky’ comes into the showdown off the back of a decision win against rival Kamaru Usman back in March.

Edwards will be looking to successfully defend the 170lbs strap for the second time against ‘Chaos.’

While he is fully focused on the task at hand, it would appear that Edwards has one eye on a potential showdown with either Sean Strickland or Dricus du Plessis.

The 32-year-old wants to join the small club of double UFC champions and become the first British star to achieve it next year.

Edwards revealed grand ambitions about moving up to middleweight. Strickland holds the belt and will face Du Plessis at UFC 297 in Toronto next January.

Edwards feels that if the winner can come through unscathed, he’d like to face them at UFC 300 in the spring on what will no doubt be an historic card.

When asked about moving up to middleweight, Edwards told Sky Sports: ‘100 percent, definitely.

‘I feel especially with someone like [Sean] Strickland, and I think he’s fighting [Dricus] Du Plessis soon, so either of them two would be great to fight.

‘I’m big myself. I feel like that would be perfect. I feel like me going out and being double-champ, first ever from the UK to do it. That’s definitely one of my goals. That’s on the cards for sure.’

When asked about a timeline, ‘Rocky’ added: ‘Next would be perfect, to be honest. The division right now, there’s no one that’s exciting in the division so for me to go out there to do that, that would be perfect.

‘UFC 300, I like that. To put me on that card would be massive. Let’s see.’
