Fallon Sherrock collected her MBE from the Prince of Wales last month and he promised to follow her progress at Ally Pally.<\/p>\n<p>Sherrock was recognised for her services to darts at Windsor Castle at the beginning of November. She became the first woman to win a match at the PDC World Darts Championship in 2019 and also reached the last eight of the Grand Slam of Darts in 2021.<\/p>\n<p>She has become a household name among darts fans, having also won the inaugural Women&#8217;s World Matchplay last year. Sherrock admitted on social media after her meeting with Prince William that she was more nervous than being on the stage in a live TV event.<\/p>\n<p>But she settled once she learned that the Prince was a fan of the sport. She told the Mail: &#8220;I didn\u2019t know who I was going to meet at the time. When I knew it was Prince William, it was, &#8216;Oh my God&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.images.express.co.uk\/img\/dynamic\/4\/590x\/secondary\/Prince-William-World-Darts-Championship-Fallon-Sherrock-5109175.jpg?r=1702291659547\"><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I genuinely wanted to meet William. I was panicking. I\u2019m thinking, &#8216;Don\u2019t fall over&#8217;, because I\u2019m wearing heels and I\u2019m not used to them and my feet hurt. When he started talking, I lost my words. I was like, &#8216;Yes. Yes. Yes&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I\u2019m thinking, &#8216;Focus. Don\u2019t embarrass yourself&#8217;. He told me he\u2019d seen it broadcast. I was like, &#8216;You\u2019ve seen darts on TV?&#8217; He started laughing at me, &#8216;Yes, I\u2019ve seen it on the television&#8217;, all in his posh voice. He said he likes the concept, how you can go to the pub and play with your friends.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Sherrock will be aiming to make more history at this year&#8217;s tournament, starting her campaign this evening against Dutchman Jermaine Wattimena. He was asking how I got into it, about my family, when my next competitions were, and he said he\u2019d see if he could watch it to keep an eye on me.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Sherrock is an inspiration for women&#8217;s darts players and hopes to continue to raise participation among young girls. She said: &#8220;There are so many young girls who\u2019ve taken it up now because they\u2019ve seen how your life can change. It\u2019s a whole new scene.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;You\u2019re not seeing the same faces on TV. It inspires people to think, &#8216;Hang on, times are changing, I can do anything&#8217;.
