Pochettino urges calm after Chelsea lose at Man Utd

Chelsea will go in search of a much-needed Premier League victory at Everton today with the frustration of throwing away two points late on against the Toffees at Stamford Bridge last season still fresh in the memory. With Sean Dyche’s team scrapping to keep their proud Premier League existence alive, Joao Felix had given the West London club the lead before Abdoulaye Doucoure bundled home an equaliser for the visitors with just over 20 minutes to play.

A Kai Havertz penalty seven minutes later appeared to have clinched all three points for Chelsea, but Everton had not read the script and after Ellis Simms was introduced as a late substitute it was the recalled striker who delivered the killer blow in the 90th minute with a stampeding run and finish that rescued a vital point for the visitors.

Everton’s joy was only matched by the frustration of their hosts and in particular club owner Todd Boehly whose anger at seeing his expensively assembled side fail to win yet again finally boiled over.

The result left Chelsea 10th in the Premier League with hopes of rescuing their season with late European qualification suffering another setback. In a video shared on social media (as per the Mirror), billionaire Boehly was caught on camera saying “s*** f***ing game” in response to a supporter, before the American continued to walk away from Stamford Bridge flanked by two security guards.

Graham Potter, who was still Chelsea manager at the time of the match, said afterwards: “We’re really disappointed because we’ve dropped two points at home. We wanted to win and you saw the intention of the team.

“There was a lot of positive things in the performance but ultimately we’ve not defended well enough and to concede two goals, it’s not easy to win the game. That’s the disappointing thing for us.”

Potter would soon pay the price for poor results with his job, as Boehly finally lost patience with the man he had brought in from Brighton to replace Thomas Tuchel. Potter was replaced on an interim basis by club legend Frank Lampard until the end of the season, but he could only secure a 12th-place finish ensuring that there would be no European football at the Bridge this season.
