who were relegated from the Bundesliga last season as they continue to endure a torrid few years &#8211; have had a difficult start to life back in the second tier.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>They have been closer to the relegation zone than the top of the table and picked up a crucial 2-0 victory over Hansa which pushed them two points clear of the relegation play-off spot.<\/p>\n<p>However, the crunch clash &#8211; which was settled thanks to goals from\u00a0Blendi Idrizi and\u00a0Kenan Karaman &#8211; saw the first half play on for an astonishing 33 minutes extra.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In a pictured shared by a Schalke fan on social media of the clock showing the game being into the 71st minute, they said: &#8216;Don\u2019t know to explain this but this is actually still the first half.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/12\/11\/12\/78820621-0-image-a-32_1702299187434.jpg\" height=\"764\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Schalke&#8217;s Bundesliga 2 clash against Hansa Rostock saw the first half last for 78 minutes<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/12\/11\/12\/78820641-0-image-a-33_1702299286206.jpg\" height=\"406\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>A long delay was caused on 38 minute due to crowd trouble between both sets of supporters<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/12\/11\/12\/78820645-0-image-a-34_1702299291931.jpg\" height=\"406\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>A fan explained how the trouble led to the game being paused for approximately 30 minutes<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/12\/11\/13\/78820919-0-image-a-36_1702299818039.jpg\" height=\"266\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>They provided more context to the delays in a detailed post on their social media account<\/p>\n<p>The supporter went onto explain the reasoning behind the lengthy first half as they added how the game was paused on 38 minutes due to crowd trouble between the two sets of supporters.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Following the resumption, Junior Brumado was then sent off after a long VAR check.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In a post on social media they said: &#8216;Game stopped on 38 mins for like almost half an hour due to us and Hansa fans breaking some glass wall between them, and I think shooting fireworks (or something that makes a loud bang at least) at each other.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Clock kept going, the game resumed, Hansa got a VAR red card immediately and now we\u2019ve got 5 mins injury time haha desperate to score to see the first ever 80th-minute first-half goal.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>The longest football match recorded in history was Stockport County&#8217;s game with Doncaster Rovers in March 1946.<\/p>\n<p>The game lasted for 203 minutes but ended as a 2-2 draw before Rovers won the replay 4-0.<\/p>\n<p>The lengthy first half in Schalke&#8217;s game also comes after the longest games to have taken place in England&#8217;s top four tiers this season were revealed last month.<\/p>\n<p>In an attempt to crackdown on time-wasting during matches, referees were given new directives ahead of the campaign.<\/p>\n<p>This is similar to what happened at the World Cup in Qatar last year and as a result, injury time has regularly racked up into double figures in both halves, with this all done in an attempt to increase the amount of time the ball is in play for.<\/p>\n<p>And in data released by Opta and published in The Athletic\u00a0encompassing the Premier League, Championship, League One and League Two, the eight longest games were revealed.<\/p>\n<p>Your browser does not support iframes.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/12\/11\/12\/78820647-0-image-a-35_1702299294511.jpg\" height=\"431\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Schalke won the game 2-0 to move away from relegation trouble in the Bundesliga 2<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/12\/11\/12\/77788429-0-The_longest_games_to_have_taken_place_in_England_so_far_this_sea-a-31_1702298970414.jpg\" height=\"566\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>The longest games to have taken place in England so far this season were revealed last month<\/p>\n<p>Remarkably, Stevenage &#8211;
