{"id":301889,"date":"2023-12-09T13:25:20","date_gmt":"2023-12-09T13:25:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sportstons.com\/?p=301889"},"modified":"2023-12-09T13:25:20","modified_gmt":"2023-12-09T13:25:20","slug":"ferdinand-suggests-city-are-suffering-from-a-treble-winning-hangover","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sportstons.com\/soccer\/ferdinand-suggests-city-are-suffering-from-a-treble-winning-hangover\/","title":{"rendered":"Ferdinand suggests City are suffering from a Treble-winning &apos;hangover&apos;"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1> Rio Ferdinand suggests Man City are suffering from a Treble-winning &#8216;hangover&#8217; after trophy-laden 2022-23\u00a0 as Pep Guardiola&#8217;s side face criticism amid run of four games without a win<\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Pep Guardiola&#8217;s side have faced allegations of complacency from some pundits\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>City have had a fiendish run of Premier League fixtures in the last two months\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Man City have dipped, but Gary Neville is WRONG to say they\u2019re complacent &#8211; Listen to It&#8217;s All Kicking Off\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Rio Ferdinand has suggested that Manchester City&#8217;s recent dip in form is the result of &#8216;a hangover&#8217; after such an impressive 2022-23.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Pep Guardiola&#8217;s City were the best team in Europe last term, winning a Treble of the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League, however they have not won in their last four games\u00a0in the Premier League.<\/p>\n<p>Draws with Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham came ahead of a defeat on the road to Aston Villa in midweek &#8211; the worst such run under Guardiola&#8217;s reign.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As such, the reigning champions have faced some criticism for their surprise form in the Premier League, with Sky Sports pundits Micah Richards, Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher suggesting there was an element of complacency.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Yet Ferdinand suggested that there might be a &#8216;hangover&#8217; effect in the blue side of Manchester, although he claimed that it is entirely understandable if that is the case.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/12\/09\/11\/78765527-0-image-a-29_1702122829475.jpg\" height=\"423\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Rio Ferdinand has suggested that Manchester City have a &#8216;hangover&#8217; after their success last term<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/12\/09\/11\/78765533-0-image-a-28_1702122826542.jpg\" height=\"423\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>The Citizens have been on a run of four games without a win &#8211; their worst run under Pep Guardiola<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/12\/09\/11\/78765477-0-image-a-30_1702122838168.jpg\" height=\"423\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Guardiola refuted the suggestion that his side were experiencing complacency this season<\/p>\n<p>Your browser does not support iframes.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;I&#8217;ve seen people say they&#8217;re not focussed anymore or they&#8217;re not as hungry but this is a team that&#8217;s won three Premier League&#8217;s and a treble,&#8217; he said on TNT Sports. &#8216;There&#8217;s going to be a bit of a hangover maybe.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;It&#8217;s tiring to do that. I was in a team that did three on the bounce and it&#8217;s a tiring experience.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;But that feeling of winning is a drug and these guys are on that. They&#8217;re going through a moment form wise but they will shake up, no doubt about that.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>City fans will likely point to the fact that their recent run of fixtures over the past two months has been fiendish in the extreme.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Since the start of October, they have faced Arsenal (a), Brighton (h), Manchester United (a), Bournemouth (h), Chelsea (a), Liverpool (h), Tottenham (h) and Aston Villa (a).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In other words, the Citizens have played all five of their fellow &#8216;Big Six&#8217; sides, as well as third-placed Aston Villa and high-flying Brighton &#8211; arguably the worst fixture list of any team in the league.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In the whole of 2022-23, City played 63 games in all competitions, losing only seven of those, and such an exertion understandably could take a toll on any squad.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The City boss took aim at the three Sky pundits in his press conference ahead of the game at Villa, saying: \u2018Gary Neville knows how difficult it is otherwise he would\u2019ve won four Premier Leagues in the best period of Manchester United.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/12\/09\/11\/78765531-0-image-a-31_1702122935927.jpg\" height=\"414\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>The Treble winners have had a fiendish run of fixtures in the Premier League in the last two months<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/12\/09\/11\/78765475-0-image-a-32_1702122960038.jpg\" height=\"423\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Their most recent blip came at Aston Villa where they lost 1-0 in midweek at Villa Park<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;But he didn\u2019t do it. Maybe they accuse us of complacency because they felt complacency (at United). Maybe they felt it. This team so far, no chance.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Jamie Carragher didn\u2019t win one (title). Micah Richards didn\u2019t win four Premier Leagues in a row. Never, ever. It\u2019s never happened.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I don\u2019t have anything to say about the pundits, honestly. It\u2019s not about that (complacency). Maybe I\u2019m wrong but I don\u2019t think it\u2019s about complacency.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I know the players, I know how they run. How we behave is extraordinary. I have a feeling that if we maintain that level, we\u2019ll win the Premier League.
