Liverpool fans could have plenty to cheer about this year as the Red tussle with Manchester City and Arsenal for the Premier League title. And there are a handful of cult heroes who have moved on and may also be cheering the team on from afar.

Luis Suarez

Suarez needs no introduction and his three years at Anfield will live long in the memory. Liverpool came so close to winning the Premier League with Suarez as their No 9 but he departed with just one medal – the 2012 League Cup.

The Uruguayan won a host of personal accolades during his final year on Merseyside, in which he scored 31 goals in 33 matches.

That earned him a move to Barcelona and his link up with Lionel Messi and Neymar made them the dominant force in Spain, winning four consecutive La Liga titles. The 36-year-old is still plying his trade for Brazilian outfit Gremio but injuries are creeping in and his career may soon be brought to a close.

Martin Skrtel

The Slovakian centre-back left Anfield in 2016, where he went on to make 79 appearances in the Turkish league.

Skrtel continued his professional career with Slovakian top-division side Spartak Trnava before leaving in 2022.

The 38-year-old has since returned to his home country to fulfill his promise of finishing his career at his boyhood amateur club FK Hajskala Raztocno, who play in a local league in Prievidza.
