Bayern Munich have signed Granada winger Bryan Zaragoza on a five-year deal for a reported £12million.

The 22-year-old will join Bayern next summer, when his contract until 2029 will begin.

Brentford had been interested in him, as had European heavyweights Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, and RB Leipzig.

Reports of the exact transfer fee vary slightly but Sport reports that Bayern have triggered his release clause of £12million.

Zaragoza made his Spain debut against Scotland in October and his stock has risen after a strong debut La Liga season in which he has scored five goals.

‘Bryan is one of the best players in Spain and has been in our sights for some time. He will expand our attacking options. We wish him every success with Granada CF for the rest of the season,’ said Christoph Freund, Bayern’s sporting director.

He was instrumental in Granada’s charge to the second-tier title last season and has been a rare light in their dismal return to the top flight.

Granada have only won one of 15 La Liga games and sit 19th in the table, but his five goals and two assists put him level with experienced stars such as Real Madrid’s Joselu.

His standout performance this season saw him stick two past Barcelona from the left-wing, where his electrifying pace was too much for Xavi’s side to handle.

That day, he got on the scoresheet after 17 seconds and added another before the half-hour mark but Barca fought back for a 2-2 draw.

Fruend added: ‘Bryan Zaragoza is a very fast and extremely agile winger with a great change of pace, who can play on both wings. He is unpredictable, dangerous and very good one-on-one.’

A double against Barcelona earlier this season, including a goal after 17 seconds, showed what he can do at the top level

Brentford had been looking at him, as had Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, and RB Leipzig, but Bayern Munich acted early to secure his signature

He has been described as a raw, direct winger and his attempted take-ons place him in the top few per cent among wingers in Europe’s top five league this season.

Zaragoza only joined Granada in 2019 from a local team and did not progress through the academy system, which can sometimes be sterilising for ‘street football’-style players.

Brentford and Leipzig were looking to bring him in in January.

Barcelona were keen to wait until the summer, when his release clause would reportedly drop to £6m, to seal a deal.
