    Nick Pope's shoulder injury is a "big blow" according to ex-Magpies star Shay Given.<\/p>\n

    The England international landed awkwardly on his left shoulder as he dived to make a save against Manchester United on Saturday only for the shot to be blocked by team-mate Fabian Schar.<\/p>\n

    But in doing so, Pope dislocated his shoulder, with the 31-year-old clearly in agony on the pitch at St. James' Park as play went on. Thankfully, the game was stopped shortly after, with Pope receiving treatment. He was later substituted with Martin Dubravka replacing him. <\/p>\n

    However, with Newcastle currently battling an injury crisis on Tyneside, the loss of Pope, who will be out for around four months following surgery, comes as a bitter blow to the Magpies ahead of the festive fixture period. The former Burnley goalkeeper had put in a string of impressive performances recently, including a magnificent display against Paris Saint Germain in the Champions League.<\/p>\n

    And ex-Toon goalkeeper Given, who watched Pope live in Paris, reckons the loss of their number one shot stopper could have a huge impact upon their season this term.<\/p>\n

    Speaking exclusively to Daily Star Sport<\/b>, Given said: "It's a big blow. You know, going back to the game against Paris Saint Germain in the Champions League, I was at the game and he was immense. He put in a phenomenal performance. One of the saves in the second half was just unbelievable, I thought it was a goal from where I was sitting, and somehow he managed to keep it out.<\/p>\n

    "They are going to miss him, but we saw last year when the other goalkeepers had not played all season and then [Loris] Karius is playing in the [Carabao] cup final at Wembley. So things can change really quickly in the goalkeeping department. <\/p>\n

    "Nick Pope is going to be out, I'd imagine – I'm not a doctor or a physio – but when I did my shoulder, I was out for around three months. That's a long period, the rest of December, January and February, so it's going to be a big miss because he makes big saves."<\/p>\n

    However, despite the loss of Pope, Given is backing Dubravka to step in seamlessly for the England international.<\/p>\n

    Given added: "Martin Dubravka is no mug as well. In Martin, they've got a very experienced goalkeeper, one who's played for quite a few years for Newcastle now, there's no issues on that front, he's a top goalkeeper as well and it's just obviously if something happens to him, you're going down the pecking order aren't you.<\/p>\n
