Avril Mathie has broken her silence after injury resulted in her 'Battle of the Boobs' title clash against Ebanie Bridges being cancelled.

Mathie, 36, was given the opportunity of a lifetime when she was named as the challenger to Bridges' IBF world bantamweight title crown. Boxing fans were beginning to get excited about the clash, particularly after Bridges cranked up the anticipation by labelling their bout as the "Battle of the Boobs."

Unfortunately for Mathie, she will have to hope such an opportunity comes around again, as an injury in the eleventh hour forced her to vacate her position as the Blonde Bomber's challenger. As Bridges, 37, prepares to take on Miyo Yoshida instead, Mathie sent an emotional video to her supporters describing her frustration.

Alongside her video, she wrote: "Finally I can announce this… If you’re wondering why you haven’t seen me in the gym in quite a while, here’s why: Sadly, a few weeks ago I got injured quite badly in training.

"The doctors told me I will not recover before December 9th and so had to pull out of my fight with Ebanie Bridges for her IBF world title. I cried for about a week when this happened.

"But now I’m focussed on just making a full recovery as fast as possible (could be a few weeks or months still) so Ebanie and I can make sure this fight still happens sometime next year. Meanwhile just appreciating and making the most of all the other parts of life that I still can at the moment.

"Thanks to everyone who’s been a huge support in this really f***ing hard time. I love you all."

Bridges also responded to her fellow Aussie in the comment section. She wrote: "Gutted we couldn’t do the battle of the babes this time, but everything happens for a reason. Main thing is you recover and get healthy. Wishing you a speedy recovery."

Bridges knows what it is like to be injured for a long time, having nursed a hand injury suffered during her dominant victory over Shannon O'Connell last year. Her bout against Yoshida will be her first fight since recovering from injury.
