Fans think a UFC referee deserves prison time after failing to stopping a clash where one fighter took 19 headshots on the floor.

Bobby Green was knocked out in thunderous fashion by Jalin Turner in the first round at UFC Austin on Saturday. The 37-year-old veteran suffered his 15th career defeat after being caught on the temple, at which point he faced a barrage of heavy shots and fell to the canvas.

Referee Kerry Hatley surely should have called the fight there and then, but allowed a brutally excessive ground and pound by ‘The Tarantula’ to take place while Green lay limp on his stomach. Hatley finally stepped in after 19 headshots – and the entire MMA community, including former fighters and commentators, were left disgusted at his late decision.

One fan wrote on X: “This is one of the worst MMA stoppages I have ever seen. The amount of unprotected ground and pound strikes Bobby took. The ref’s job is to protect the fighter at all costs. Awful stoppage.”

Another tweeted: “19 headshots on the floor. Ref needs prison man,” while a third added: “WHAT IS THAT REF DOING?!?!”

Others slammed the referee by commenting: “Knocked him out 6 times,” and “Disgusting stoppage. How many unanswered shots does it take?!?!”

Do you think the referee should face punishment? Let us know in the comments section.

Furious British UFC legend Michael Bisping said on commentary: “He was face down, he was getting ground and pounded by a very powerful, world class striker. Bobby Green is still down. That’s disgusting, it should have been stopped right there.

“He’s a great referee but what the hell was he waiting for? It’s as simple as that. People’s lives are at stake, their long term future.

“That was utterly disgraceful. If he was face down in the octagon with someone cracking him in the face, he would want it to be stopped sooner. “

Thankfully, after a minute or so out cold and receiving treatment, Green got up and gracefully went over to congratulate his opponent. And he followed it up with a video message on social media.

Green said: "Well guys, you win some, you lose some. I just wanna show people that you’ve got to keep it G when you win, you’ve got to keep it G when you lose. Shout out to Jalin, you did your thing brother and I’m so happy for you.

“To all my people. It’s just another step in the career. I’m not going anywhere, love you guys.”
