Manchester United are being investigated for allegedly serving raw chicken at an event held at Old Trafford.

Several people claim they became unwell following an unnamed event hosted at the Red Devils’ stadium in recent months. Now United are being investigated by Trafford Council, as well as launching an internal investigation after being hit with a number of complaints, according to The Athletic.

The investigations will be conducted with the aim of determining whether the symptoms experienced were linked to what guests consumed at Old Trafford. The club has not yet commented on the allegations.

The council has the power to demand urgent improvements, and if there's deemed to be an imminent risk to public health, stop or close down part or all of a business, until it's safe to resume.

United’s food hygiene rating is currently rated an impeccable five on the government’s website. The stadium’s annual Food Standards Agency (FSA) inspection, which assesses the food served by businesses, was set to take place on October 23.

The FSA has yet to publish the club’s new rating. And any downgrade on their hygiene rating could have a negative impact on United’s finances, with the club drawing substantial revenue from hosting events and providing hospitality.

The news comes just as Sir Jim Ratcliffe, Britain’s second richest person, is set to purchase a minority stake in the club. It will see the INEOS chief take control of its football operations and oversee a radical overhaul.

United CEO Richard Arnold will step down from his role, having been at the club since 2007. His interim replacement is the club’s General Counsel Patrick Stewart.

Arnold commented: “It has been an incredible privilege to serve this great football club for the past 16 years. Through highs and lows, the constant has been the dedication of our employees and fans.

"I would like to thank all of them for their loyalty and commitment, and wish everyone associated with the club the very best for the future."
