Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has followed up Alejandro Garnacho's stunning overhead strike against Everton with one of his own for Marseille

Last weekend saw Garnacho net what will likely be the Premier League's goal of the season come the end of the 2023/24 campaign, with the Manchester United winger scoring a sensational overhead kick against the Toffees which sent social media into meltdown.

And the Argentine's strike against Everton may have inspired ex-Arsenal and Chelsea forward Aubameyang to pull off his own overhead kick finish in the Europa League for Marseille against Ajax.

The Ligue 1 side dispatched Ajax 4-3 on Thursday night, with Aubameyang netting a hat-trick, which included a 93rd minute penalty to put Marseille top of Group B ahead of second placed Brighton heading into the final game of the group.

But it was his second goal just after half-time which proved to be the most impressive of his hat-trick. Crossing from the byline, winger Amine Harit lofted the ball towards to the edge of the six-yard box, with Aubameyang the closest player in proximity.

However, the 34-year-old had to adjust his position, meaning the only way he could score from Harit's cross was to produce a bicycle kick – which is exactly what he did. The Marseille striker's acrobatic effort was hit sweetly, with Ajax's Diant Ramaj given zero chance of saving it.

To the majority of fans who have now seen Aubameyang's and Garnacho's goals, the latter is regarded the better of the two sensational strikes. However, that has not stopped some Arsenal fans on social media trying to claim their former captain's goal was the more impressive.

One fan commented on X, formerly Twitter: "Unpopular opinion, Aubameyang did the bicycle kick better than Garnacho." A second added: "Aubameyang’s goal for Marseille is so clear of Garnacho’s goal" with a third writing: "Aubameyang out there cooking. Better than Garnacho's in my book."

However, there were plenty who disagreed. One wrote on social media: "That Aubameyang bicycle kick ain't even closer to Garnacho's one."

A second added: "Brilliant goal, but nowhere near Garnacho's." And a third said: "Garnacho's bike kick is better, this is not a competition."
