Alicia Molik had a busy first day in office after being appointed as the new tournament director of the Adelaide International.

The Adelaide native was appearing on court for her unveiling to the press and was mid-interview when disaster struck. A ball girl seemingly fainted just a few metres behind Molik and her colleagues, which sparked the two-time Grand Slam-winner into action.

The 42-year-old tennis icon ran as quickly as she could to tend to the youngster alongside a few other members of staff. Molik said she was merely 'reacting accordingly' when she ran over to the girl and sought to 'make sure she was doing okay'.

Molik put her first-aid knowledge to good news and helped roll the girl onto her side after she landed on her back unresponsive. Paramedics were called to the scene, and it's understood the girl is recovering in hospital.

One colleague can be seen shouting to her co-workers to check if the girl's parents were present at the time. Former world No8 Molik is a mother of two and gave birth to her first child, a son, in 2011 soon after her (second) retirement.

Hometown hero Molik won the 2005 Australian Open doubles title with Svetland Kuznetsova before adding the 2007 French Open doubles crown to her cabinet alongside Mara Santangelo. The one-time Wimbledon semi-finalist is motivated to 'keep giving back' to Australian tennis after 10 years leading the country's Billie Jean King Cup team.

"Tennis is part of my everyday DNA and to have the opportunity to be a part of a world-class tennis event in the city where I grew up is really something special," said Molik at her unveiling. "This is a chance for me to give back to the community that supported me throughout my on-court career and still to this day.

"The last decade with the Australian Billie Jean King Cup team has prepared me for this next challenge. Working with players and their teams to understand how to provide the best competition experience is critical to the ongoing growth of the tournament and its success."
