Chelsea could reportedly be set to make a move for Massimiliano Allegri at the end of the season if he decides to leave Juventus. Speculation is stirring that Mauricio Pochettino is on the cusp of coming under pressure at Stamford Bridge, with the Argentine unable to get the best out of his pricey squad.

The Blues have shown glimpses of promise over the past few weeks, with their performances against Tottenham and Manchester City showing that they have the calibre of players capable of going toe to toe with the very best in the Premier League.

However, Chelsea’s 4-1 thumping at the hands of Newcastle showed the team at their worst. Pochettino’s side looked overwhelmed by the occasion and lacked conviction with every phase of play, struggling to create chances and not having a clear plan in place to deal with the Magpies’ attack.

The defeat leaves Chelsea in 10th place in the Premier League, and they will need to improve markedly if they are to mount a challenge for the European spots. Failing to push on would see Todd Boehly and co with a serious decision to make regarding Pochettino and whether he is the right manager to lead their project.
