{"id":300729,"date":"2023-11-27T23:24:53","date_gmt":"2023-11-27T23:24:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sportstons.com\/?p=300729"},"modified":"2023-11-27T23:24:53","modified_gmt":"2023-11-27T23:24:53","slug":"trainer-nicky-henderson-enters-shishkin-for-rehearsal-chase","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sportstons.com\/horse-racing\/trainer-nicky-henderson-enters-shishkin-for-rehearsal-chase\/","title":{"rendered":"Trainer Nicky Henderson enters Shishkin for\u00a0Rehearsal Chase"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Trainer Nicky Henderson enters Shishkin for Rehearsal Chase after his King George preparations were thrown into disarray by Ascot antics\u00a0<\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Shishkin&#8217;s refusal to start at Ascot has caused a headache for Nicky Henderson<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Trainer loath to send wayward star to Kempton with black mark against his name<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Shishkin would also form part of a dual Henderson attack at the North East track<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Shishkin could be handed a chance to redeem his reputation at Newcastle on Saturday after trainer Nicky Henderson gave him an entry in the Rehearsal Chase.<\/p>\n<p>The nine-year-old\u2019s preparation for the King George VI Chase at Kempton on Boxing Day has been thrown into disarray after he mulishly refused to start in the 1965 Chase at Ascot.<\/p>\n<p>The Lambourn trainer is loath to send Shishkin straight to Kempton with a black mark against his name but his prep-race options are limited.<\/p>\n<p>If he lines up in the handicap at Newcastle, where he would have to concede more than 21lb to his rivals, Shishkin would follow the path taken last season by Venetia Williams-trained L\u2019Homme Presse, who won the Rehearsal Chase before falling at the last in the King George.<\/p>\n<p>Shishkin would also form part of a dual Henderson attack at the North East track, with unbeaten Champion Hurdler Constitution Hill due to make his seasonal debut in the Fighting Fifth Hurdle.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/27\/22\/78299717-12797347-image-a-9_1701125879603.jpg\" height=\"423\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Shishkin&#8217;s refusal to start at Ascot has caused a headache for trainer Nicky Henderson<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/27\/22\/78299719-12797347-image-a-10_1701125916073.jpg\" height=\"423\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Henderson, left, has taken the decision to enter Shishkin in the\u00a0Rehearsal Chase on Saturday<\/p>\n<p>Henderson said: \u2018I have entered Shishkin and we will see how he is. He has been fine since Ascot. He cantered yesterday and today.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018We have various ideas. We know what we have to do. He is not the first horse to turn round at the start.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Shishkin\u2019s Ascot antics came at a race start running away from the racecourse stables or \u2018home\u2019, as Henderson termed it. The trainer has acknowledged the King George would present a similar scenario.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Flat jockey Ray Dawson has been suspended for six months after testing positive for cocaine when riding at Bath in August.<\/p>\n<p>The 30-year-old blamed the breakdown of a relationship for his drug-taking.
