{"id":300673,"date":"2023-11-27T12:24:49","date_gmt":"2023-11-27T12:24:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sportstons.com\/?p=300673"},"modified":"2023-11-27T12:24:49","modified_gmt":"2023-11-27T12:24:49","slug":"jill-scott-awkwardly-silences-daniel-sturridge-with-a-brutal-jibe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sportstons.com\/soccer\/jill-scott-awkwardly-silences-daniel-sturridge-with-a-brutal-jibe\/","title":{"rendered":"Jill Scott awkwardly silences Daniel Sturridge with a brutal jibe"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Lionesses legend Jill Scott awkwardly silences Daniel Sturridge with a brutal jibe about failing to win the Premier League with Liverpool&#8230; as Jamie Redknapp calls her &#8216;the silent assassin&#8217;<\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Daniel Sturridge was reflecting on failing to win the league with Liverpool\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>But the striker star was awkwardly silenced by Lionesses legend Jill Scott\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>City-Liverpool is tough to referee&#8230; but our campaign is up and running &#8211; IAKO\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Jill Scott delivered some brutal advice to Daniel Sturridge on Sky Sport&#8217;s show &#8216;A League of Their Own&#8217; after the former Liverpool striker recounted how his old club narrowly came close to winning the Premier League in 2014.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Sturridge, 34, who played for Liverpool between 2013 and 2018, proved a key part of Brendan Rodgers&#8217; side that missed out on winning the league title by two points to Man City.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>While the title race was still on right up until the final three games of the season, the Merseyside outfit suffered a 2-0 defeat by Chelsea, before drawing 3-3 to Crystal Palace, who scored three late goals to see Rodgers&#8217; side slip away from the title.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Sturridge, who scored 21 goals in the Premier League that season, recalled the agony of coming so close to winning the title.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;I still think about it today to be honest,&#8217; he said on &#8216;A League of Their Own&#8217; after he was asked by Romesh Ranganathan what it was like to come so close to winning the Premier League.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/27\/11\/78275229-12795319-image-a-34_1701083731812.jpg\" height=\"390\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Daniel Sturridge was awkwardly silenced by Jill Scott after he spoke about how Liverpool narrowly missed out on winning the Premier League in the 2013-14 season<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/27\/11\/78274761-12795319-image-a-39_1701084064884.jpg\" height=\"689\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Scott hit out at the ex-Liverpool forward claiming that if &#8216;he hadn&#8217;t been vibing&#8217; Liverpool may have won the league<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Because you always think you get so close to that success. Sometimes I&#8217;m driving in my car and I can hear a tune that was playing that year in the dressing room at that time and I&#8217;m vibing.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;And then I think damn, we didn&#8217;t get it done.\u00a0But you know, fortunately for the club they won the Premier League and it was a great moment for them.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>While Sturridge is yet to publicly announce his retirement from football, he has recently taken up a punditry role with Sky Sports.<\/p>\n<p>Mail Sport reported earlier this month that the broadcaster could be dragged into the former England star&#8217;s legal fight against an American rapper, who claims the footballer owes him a $30,000 reward for finding his lost dog.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But lionesses legend, Scott, subsequently delivered a brutal roast to the former Liverpool star, stating: &#8216;Maybe if you hadn&#8217;t been vibing you might have got it done.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>An awkward silence descending among the show&#8217;s guests, before the audience broke out in fits of laughter.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The camera panned to Sturridge who nodded his head and held his hands in the air saying &#8216;okay&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/27\/11\/78274759-12795319-image-a-36_1701083767775.jpg\" height=\"697\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>An awkward silence descended on the program&#8217;s guests, with Sturridge holding his hands up while nodding his head\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/27\/11\/78274757-12795319-image-a-37_1701083772999.jpg\" height=\"681\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Jamie Redknapp then called the former Lionesses star, Scott, &#8216;a silent assassin&#8217;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/27\/11\/78275243-12795319-image-a-38_1701083779002.jpg\" height=\"423\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Sturridge (right) was pivotal to Liverpool&#8217;s epic 2013-14 season, despite the Reds&#8217; coming up short at the end of the season<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/27\/11\/78275225-12795319-image-a-40_1701084270653.jpg\" height=\"443\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>The former England striker scored 21 goals in 29 league matches during that campaign, missing out on the Golden Boot award to team-mate Luis Suarez<\/p>\n<p>After the noise from the crowd had died down, Jamie Redknapp said: &#8216;Jill is the silent assassin!
