Manchester United legend Gary Neville believes Alejandro Garnacho's bicycle kick goal against Everton was better than Wayne Rooney's in the Manchester derby.

Erik ten Hag's side arrived at Goodison Park with little confidence and the knowledge they would be taking on an Everton side fired up by their 10 point deduction from the Premier League. At times, United looked to be shrinking in the bearpit created by the furious Evertonians.

However, Garnacho stunned Merseyside into silence with one of the most outrageous overhead kicks you will ever see. It was so good, Neville put it above the legendary goal scored by Rooney against Manchester City.

A floated cross from Marcus Rashford sailed to the far side of the Everton penalty area. There appeared to be little threat, until Garnacho shuffled backwards, leapt into the air with his back to goal and unleashed a bicycle kick that connected sweetly and flew into Jordan Pickford's top left hand corner.

Neville said: "I don't think I've ever been in a stadium where I've seen a better overhead kick goal than that, and I was there for Rooney in the Manchester derby."

After watching another replay, Neville then said: “It’s the best overhead kick I’ve seen live and I think it’s the best one I’ve ever seen.”

Rooney's overhead kick was 11 years ago, yet it is still considered to be one of the greatest goals ever scored in the Premier League. At the time, United were drawing 1-1 with the Citizens in what was also a crucial match for the Red Devils' Premier League hopes.

A deflected cross from Nani was dropping behind Rooney when he leapt into the air, made contact with the ball with his feet over his head and directed the ball back across Joe Hart and into the top corner.

If you were to put action replays of both goals alongside each other, there would be little difference – unless you were Neville of course.
