Chelsea defender Thiago Silva has apologised for his error-strewn performance following the Blues’ disappointing 4-1 defeat to Newcastle on Saturday.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The Magpies scored three second half goals without reply to send Mauricio Pochettino’s side to a crushing defeat, with the Brazilian at fault for Joelinton’s 61st-minute strike.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Silva’s sloppy pass was cut off by his countryman and he made no mistake in putting the ball past Robert Sanchez to give the home side a 3-1 lead.\u00a0<\/p>\n
After the game, the 39-year-old took to social media to send an emotional message apologising for his and the team’s display at St James’ Park.\u00a0<\/p>\n
‘I’m devastated. It wasn’t a good day for us.’ The centre-back said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Brazilian posted the message on both his X and Instagram accounts after the defeat\u00a0<\/p>\n
‘I would like to apologize to everyone for the defeat, especially to my teammates who believe in me and support me every day.\u00a0<\/p>\n
‘I take full responsibility. Let’s gather strength and come back stronger.’\u00a0<\/p>\n
Newcastle opened the scoring in the first half through Alexander Isak, before Chelsea drew level through a Raheem Sterling free-kick.\u00a0<\/p>\n
However, in the second half Eddie Howe’s side took the lead when\u00a0Jamaal Lascelles headed past Sanchez, then a minute later Joelinton added the third.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Blues were then reduced to ten men after captain Reece James was shown a red card following two bookable offences.\u00a0<\/p>\n
He will now miss next week’s home clash with Brighton, as will Marc Cucurella, who was booked for dissent and racked up his fifth yellow card of the season.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Anthony Gordon completed the comprehensive win, netting seven minutes from time to compound the misery for the west London side.\u00a0<\/p>\n
