A former Wrexham striker left fans in tears of laughter thanks to his “p***take” running style.

Oldham forward Mike Fondop found himself with plenty of space as the National League side broke away with a counter-attack while 2-1 up against Barnet. As he chased a loose ball down the left flank, the 29-year-old was closely followed by a Barnet defender.

But either in an attempt to go faster – or purely to mock his opponent – Fondop suddenly broke into a comedic sprint, charging forwards with high knees as his strides became bigger and bigger. And the viral clip understandably sent fans on social media into a meltdown as they were left puzzled at the spectacle.

Others were quick to point out the similarity between Fondop’s run and the one performed by Germany’s Antonio Rudiger during the World Cup against Japan. With the entire world watching, the Real Madrid defender unusually started sprinting with high knees while shielding the ball away from Takuma Asano during last year's tournament, dividing pundit and fan opinion.

Hilariously, Fondop has since responded to questions surrounding his bizarre sprint. “The track runner technique bro” he answered a curious friend on Instagram. “Scares the defender and go faster.”

The Cameroon-born striker scored his first goal of the season in the 4-1 win over Barnet having netted 15 goals for the club in previous campaigns. He has also represented the likes of Billericay Town, Aldershot Town and even Wrexham in the past, where he made 26 appearances in 2018/19.
