The Louisiana native pinpointed different scenarios involving the lightweight division&#8217;s top athletes before Olivi threw in the idea of McGregor.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;I probably would try to shut him up once and for all,&#8217; Poirier said of McGregor. &#8216;But even if I slap his a** around again, he&#8217;s still gonna be chatting so we&#8217;ll see.&#8217;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Poirier and McGregor&#8217;s rivalry began as up-and-comers in 2014. The two starred as opposing coaches in a season of The Ultimate Fighter reality show, but the fight is yet to be cemented.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Is he and Chandler official?&#8217; Poirier asked. &#8216;What&#8217;s going on?&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, Poirier has fought three times since the trilogy with McGregor.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>After beating the Irishman twice, Poirier closed 2021 by challenging former champion Charles Oliveira for the title in a losing effort. He bounced back by submitting Chandler in November 2022 before losing his rematch with Justin Gaethje for the BMF belt in July.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Poirier is currently the No. 3 ranked lightweight while McGregor&#8217;s inactivity has taken him off the rankings.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;I missed [UFC] 200, I&#8217;m not gonna be around for 400, so that (UFC 300) would be very cool for me,&#8217; Poirier reiterated. &#8216;Just have to see the landscape at that time. What&#8217;s gonna happen, I don&#8217;t know.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;I think I&#8217;m gonna fight beginning of next year, the opponent is what we&#8217;re looking for.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>UFC 300 is expected to take place in April in Las Vegas, Nevada.
