A Formula One film starring Brad Pitt has been dealt a significant blow after it emerged that key footage shot at the British Grand Prix may now be completely useless.

Hollywood star Pitt was given special permission by F1 bosses to film exciting footage at Silverstone as part of a forthcoming motor racing movie. The crew were given their own pit lane garage and recorded their lead actor driving around the track in a specially adapted F2 car in between practice sessions at the Northamptonshire circuit.

But filming of the flick was halted earlier this year when industrial action was taken by Hollywood film writers and actors. The group has been campaigning for better pay and an alternative salary structure that is less dependent on streaming numbers of TV episodes and films.

An agreement has since been reached but according to The Sun, filming cannot continue but must instead be ‘restarted’ because sponsorship deals have changed since the original footage was recorded.

It effectively means that tens of millions of pounds worth of footage is no longer usable and is destined to get no further than the cutting room floor.

This includes Pitt’s crucial Silverstone footage, but with the F1 season drawing to a close, production of the movie will now be hit by another significant delay. Britain’s seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton is also playing a key role in the motion picture.

A source said: “It really is a nightmare for Brad and the team. A lot of events had been earmarked for filming throughout the year, which would have helped reduce costs rather than having to recreate high-speed moments and wide shots.
