Andretti have tackled a major hurdle in their entry to F1 after General Motors registered with the FIA as an engine provider for the 2028 season and beyond. The American outfit have already been given the green light by the sport’s governing body and they are now attempting to win over the other ten teams on the grid.

The Andretti name has been a prominent name in the world of motorsport for decades with teams in the IndyCar and Formula E championships, but they are now hoping to make the transition to F1 with a bid to become the sport’s 11th team already approved by the FIA.

Convincing the current ten teams to let them join the grid is proving a more difficult task given concerns about the financial and competitive effects an Andretti entry could have, but this news represents a major boost for the organisation’s hopes.

While the initial application had stated support from the General Motors brand Cadillac, there were no formally announced plans for an engine deal. However, that has now changed with the American manufacturer confirming their intention to enter the sport from 2028 onwards.
