USWNT football star Megan Rapinoe caused furore when she said declared that her brutal injury "is proof God doesn't exist".<\/p>\n
Th 38-year-old hobbled off after just three minutes for OL Reign in their 2-1 defeat to Gotham FC in the NWSL Final. Rapinoe looked to have suffered a torn Achilles tendon in what her final competitive match on Saturday (November 11) after announcing her retirement.<\/p>\n
The former winger has enjoyed an illustrious career in the sport that saw her pick up a Ballon d'Or in 2019, as well as two Women's World Cup trophies with the United States. Rapinoe spoke to the media after the game alongside her Reign and USWNT team-mate Rose Lavelle, when she claimed God doesn't exist because of her "f*cked up" injury.<\/p>\n

"I'm not a religious person or anything, and if there was a God, this is proof that there isn't. This is f***ed up," Rapinoe said in her post-match interview. The injury occurred when she was running towards Maitane Lopez of Gotham before inconspicuously falling to the ground with a non-contact injury. "For sure, I tore my Achilles," she claimed as she said she felt a "huge pop". <\/p>\n
"I wasn't overly emotional about it,' Rapinoe added. "I mean, f***ing yeeted my Achilles in the sixth minute in my last game ever in the literal championship game." She lamented the fact that she now has to go through rehab as what she described as a "NARP". <\/p>\n
"I guess I just rode until the wheels came right off! Now I'm just a NARP, a normal-ass regular person, having to do rehab which is f***ing devastating."<\/p>\n

Despite the devastating ending to her glittering career, she remained positive as she continued: "You have to find the silver lining and the dark humour, and that's just who I am as well." Rapinoe spent the last 10 years of her club career with OL Reign where she scored 55 goals in 125 games.<\/p>\n
During her 17-year association with the United States national side, she scored 63 goals in 203 games and was the recipient of the Golden Ball and Golden Boot awards at the 2019 Women's World Cup, which the US triumphed in a 2-0 win over Netherlands.<\/p>\n
