Rasmus Hojlund and Christian Eriksen have pulled out of Denmark’s upcoming fixtures against Slovenia and Northern Ireland after sustaining injuries while playing for Manchester United.

Hojlund and Eriksen picked up their injuries during United’s Premier League fixture against Luton – which the Red Devils ended up winning 1-0 thanks to a goal from Victor Lindelof in the 59th minute.

Eriksen was the first to go off after 40 minutes with an apparent knee injury, while their £72million summer signing Hojlund went off in the second-half with a hamstring issue.

Hojlund and Eriksen are not the only Man United players to have been sidelined this season. Erik ten Hag has been without Casemiro, Lisandro Martinez, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia because of various injuries and illnesses.

The United manager will be eager to get Hojlund and Eriksen back on the pitch sooner rather than later given the Red Devils are heading into the busiest period of the season.

Therefore, it comes as no surprise that both Hojlund and Eriksen have withdrawn from international duty with Denmark – missing their upcoming fixtures against Slovenia and Northern Ireland later this month.

Denmark manager Kasper Hjulmand has decided to call-up Napoli star Jesper Lindstrom and Trabzonspor defender Jens Stryger Larsen to replace Hojlund and Eriksen in their Euro Qualifiers.

Hojlund will be eager to return to action with Manchester United after making an explosive start in the Champions League for the Red Devils scoring five goals in four games.

However, he is yet to find the back of the net in the Premier League, and depending on the seriousness of his injury, he might have a wait on his hands to break his goal drought in the top-flight – after making nine appearances to date.

Eriksen has also been a regular for the Red Devils, making 14 appearances so far this season. However, his absence could give Mason Mount a chance to prove himself after a tough start to life at Old Trafford.

Eriksen appeared to be in some pain as he held onto his left knee before he was replaced

Erik ten Hag has been without Casemiro , Lisandro Martinez , Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia because of various injuries and illnesses

Manchester United are heading into a busy period with Champions League fixtures against Galatasaray and Bayern Munich on the horizon. They also need points from their upcoming Premier League fixtures as they are currently sitting sixth in the table.

Saturday’s 1-0 win over Luton means United are the most in-form team in the Premier League over the last five games but that hasn’t stopped fans from questioning their manager.

The pressure around his position has been escalating amid a disastrous Champions League group stage – they are bottom of the group following the most recent 4-3 defeat to FC Copenhagen – and a dismal defence of their Carabao Cup title with a 3-0 home defeat to Newcastle.

Nine defeats from 17 matches this season has seen some supporters raise doubts about the long-term suitability of Ten Hag. However, the likes of Alejandro Garnacho and Luke Shaw have been seen liking tweets suggesting the fans should be patient with the Dutchman.
