Sir Jim Ratcliffe is reportedly eyeing up Copenhagen wonderkid Roony Bardghji, who haunted Erik ten Hag when he scored the winner in his side’s 4-3 Champions League victory over Manchester United last week. But the British businessman wants to take the winger to Nice, who are owned by his petrochemical company INEOS. Ratcliffe is close to completing a deal to buy 25 per cent of United and is set to take over the club’s football operations.

Bardghji was born in Kuwait City to a Syrian family but moved to Sweden as a child. He featured twice in the Champions League as a 16-year-old last season and came off the bench to break United hearts at the Parken Stadium last Wednesday as he lashed the ball past Andre Onana after it had fallen to him in the penalty area.

According to The Mirror, Bardghji is being monitored by multiple Premier League clubs, with Chelsea, Newcastle and Crystal Palace among the teams chasing his signature. But Nice could make the first move as Ratcliffe is plotting to win the transfer battle.

On top of his strike in the Champions League, Bardghji has also bagged seven goals in the Swedish top-flight this term and is nicknamed the Swedish Messi due to his talents and exhilarating style of play. He is also attracting attention from Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Ajax but could have his heart set on a move to Real Madrid after telling Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet a year ago: “I want to end up at Real Madrid and I want to play there for many years.”

His employers have an asking price of around £10million for the ace but will increase that if he does put pen-to-paper on a new deal.

After the player’s winning strike against the Red Devils, Copenhagen manager Jacob Neestrup said: “This kid actually thinks he’s born to score the winner in games like these.
