Erik ten Hag has been catching out Manchester United staff with his new training ground routines, according to reports.

The under-fire Red Devils boss is said to be putting in the extra hours at Carrington after overseeing the club's worst start to a season since 1974, when they also lost nine of their first 17 games and went on to be relegated from the top-flight.

United somewhat surprisingly became the most in-form team in the Premier League with a fourth win in five against Luton Town on Saturday (November 11) – but those results have been unconvincing and there's a distinct lack of a style of play.

In an attempt to resolve the issues on the pitch, The Sun claim Ten Hag has been arriving to training before 7am, even beating security and kitchen staff through the doors.

He'll often take a couple of hours in the afternoon to head home for a break, but after returning he'll then work late into the evening. A source said: “Nobody can accuse Ten Hag of a lack of effort.

“He’s been coming in very early and leaving very late, sometimes not leaving until 7.30pm. Sometimes he’s there so early he’s catching the security and kitchen staff on the hop.”

While the international break offers him some respite, more issues cropped up as Victor Lindelof's goal proved enough to see off Luton at Old Trafford. Christian Eriksen had to be replaced by Mason Mount in the first half.

And Rasmus Hojlund also hobbled off with a little over 10 minutes to go, adding to an already stacked injury list with includes long-term issues for Casemiro, Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia.

The fixtures come thick and fast in the lead up to Christmas, with a trip to Everton next up. Ten Hag will be banned from the touchline at Goodison Park after picking up his third booking of the season.

After that it's a case of trying to rescue their Champions League campaign as they travel to Galatasaray. United find themselves bottom of the group which Bayern Munich have already won, with Copenhagen also fighting it out for the second qualification spot.
