Former Newcastle defender\u00a0Florian Lejeune produced a sensational recovery to his\u00a0Rayo Vallecano conceding in La Liga.<\/p>\n
Rayo Vallecano had taken a 1-0 lead in the fifth minute through Alvaro Garc\u00eda against the surprise league leaders.<\/p>\n
The hosts had\u00a0Lejeune to thank for producing a remarkable clearance to preserve the lead in the 22nd minute.<\/p>\n
Girona appeared poised to score when striker\u00a0Artem Dovbyk flicked a cross goalwards at the back post.<\/p>\n
Lejeune had sprinted back to the line but had little time to react to\u00a0Dovbyk’s effort, with the Ukrainian having been inches from the goal.<\/p>\n

Lejeune produced a superb reaction to turn the goalbound shot from close range onto the post<\/p>\n

The French defender was able to stick out a leg and divert the ball onto the post as he fell backwards into the net.<\/p>\n
Fortunately for\u00a0Rayo Vallecano, the ball fell safely with\u00a0Lejeune’s team-mates completing his remarkable recovery.<\/p>\n
Dovbyk would eventually level the score for the visitors in the 42nd minute to leave the match at 1-1 in the first half.<\/p>\n
Girona completed the comeback in the 65th minute through Savio to maintain their stunning start to the season.<\/p>\n
The result keeps Girona at the top of La Liga, with Michel’s side having won 11 of the 13 matches this season.<\/p>\n
Lejeune’s heroics were unable to prevent\u00a0Rayo Vallecano from suffering their third defeat of the campaign.<\/p>\n
Rayo remain ninth in LaLiga having won four and drawn six matches.\u00a0<\/p>\n
