With injuries stacking up for Tottenham, watching Ansu Fati shine for Brighton may be a bitter pill to swallow for Ange Postecoglou. The Spain international came very close to joining Spurs over the summer before ultimately opting to head to the south coast.

Tottenham have made a sensational start to the season under Postecoglou, winning eight of their opening 11 matches to position themselves in second place in the table. The new brand of attacking, free-flowing football has unlocked potential in numerous players, with summer signings also hitting the ground running in north London.

However, recent injuries to Micky van de Ven and James Maddison could hamper Spurs’ good form over the coming months, with Richarlison also set to be sidelined for the foreseeable future after undergoing surgery on a pelvic injury.

Tottenham could dip into the transfer window to ensure that his growing injury list does not prove detrimental, though Postecoglou may not have needed reinforcements if he had acquired the services of Fati on loan.

The forward was set to join Spurs on a season-long loan from Barcelona before Brighton pounced to turn the head of the 21-year-old. Seagulls boss Roberto De Zerbi convinced Fati that he could help him get his career back on track, and he has proven true to his word so far this season.

The Barca loanee was in sensational form for Brighton against Ajax on Thursday night, helping the Amex Stadium outfit keep their chances of progressing into the knockout stages of the Europa League alive.
