Harvey Elliott has revealed his immediate aim is to become a regular in Jurgen Klopp’s starting line-up, but he’s also sent a message to the club’s next manager that his “end goal” is to become Liverpool captain one day. Despite being just 20 years of age, Elliott is already in his fifth season at the club and last year he was a regular in Klopp’s side.

While starts have been few and far between this term, Elliott is often one of the first players Klopp turns to off the bench. He’s seen as a star of the future and showcased his talents for his country this summer when England won the Under-21 Euros.

And the Liverpool star captained the England Under-21 side last month for the first time in his career. That’s something that is clearly on the midfielder’s mind for the future at Liverpool.

For now, Elliott’s sole focus is on trying to clinch a starting spot in Klopp’s Liverpool side.

“I think now is to kind of establish myself in the team and be a starter week in and week out,” he told the Liverpool Echo. “Obviously on top of that, hopefully, one day it comes and I can be the club captain.

“I feel like that is one of the end goals of mine, maybe towards the end of my Liverpool career. But yeah, player-wise, everyone wants to come in, win trophies, win absolutely everything and I feel that is everyone’s dream in the team, so we want to put it together and give it 100 per cent.
