Joe Cole believes Jadon Sancho needs ‘nurturing’ and thinks his outcast status at Manchester United can only be resolved with compromise from both sides.

The former England star said he would ‘love to speak’ with the banished winger and his representatives to offer guidance.

Sancho has been training alone at the academy after Erik ten Hag exiled him for publicly branding him a liar on social media in September.

He has reportedly been kicked out of the squad’s WhatsApp group in the latest turning of the screw, with little hope of reparation unless he apologises.

‘Jadon Sancho needs nurturing. Jadon is a fantastic footballer particularly with the talent and quality he’s got, but he needs a little bit of nurturing and he might need a bit more maturity,’ Cole told Mail Sport at a TNT Sports event.

Jadon Sancho needs ‘nurturing’ to heal his Manchester United exile, according to Joe Cole

Cole told Mail Sport that he would ‘love to speak’ with Sancho and that ‘movement from both parties’ is needed to resolve his Man United dispute

Erik ten Hag has forced the winger to train alone and it appears he will only budge if he receives a genuine apology

‘He’s clearly a young player with a heck of a lot of talent. In this current guise I can’t see how it can be [resolved]… Well, I can, but that would require movement from both parties.

‘It’s not going to work for him at Manchester United and I don’t know what his next move is, but there’s still a player in him.

‘I would love to speak to him and his people and try to help. If I was a young coach I would take Jadon Sancho and fancy I could get the best out of him.

‘Give me Sancho as a manager every day of the week, rather than a ham-and-egg player – that’s an old phrase – but a player of that quality needs a little bit of nurturing and help.’

Ever since his £73million move from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2021, Sancho has struggled to live up to his gargantuan price tag and potential.

In 2019 he was voted second in the Kopa Trophy for U21s by former Ballon d’Or winners, highlighting how highly he was thought of, and the excitement around him was not dissimilar to that attached to Jude Bellingham. His time in Germany brought him 50 goals in 137 appearances.

Back in September, Ten Hag excluded him from his squad to play against Arsenal and explained that he had been left out because of ‘performances in training’.

Sancho hit back with a now-deleted post on X, formerly Twitter, writing: ‘

‘Please don’t believe everything you read! I will not allow people saying things that are completely untrue, I have conducted myself in training very well this week.

The club are open to offers for the 23-year-old and are prepared to accept a huge financial loss

He was once one of Europe’s hottest prospects at Borussia Dortmund, scoring 50 goals there

The saga kicked off when Sancho implored fans not to believe ‘everything you read’ after Ten Hag criticised his training performances

‘I believe there are other reasons for this matter that I won’t go into, l’ve been a scapegoat for a long time which isn’t fair! All I want to do is play football with a smile on my face and contribute to my team.

‘I respect all decisions that are made by the coaching staff, I play with fantastic players and (am) grateful to do so which I know every week is a challenge.

‘I will continue to fight for this badge no matter what!’

While in theory a sincere apology to Ten Hag was believed to be a remedial option, the chance to reconicile looks ever thinner as he is not even allowed to mix or eat with his team-mates at Carrington.

The club were prepared to accept £45m for him in the summer and are prepared to take a significant loss on Sancho, if it means supporting Ten Hag who was brought in to improve discipline which had lapsed under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick.

Last week, he slammed Marcus Rashford’s decision to go out clubbing after their 3-0 hammering against Manchester City as ‘unacceptable’ and he took a hardline approach to dealing with Cristiano Ronaldo’s criticism last season, which led to the Portuguese international leaving the club.
