Ange Postecoglou insisted Tottenham will always play their style and jokingly remarked his team would ‘have a crack’ even if they were playing with just five men.

Spurs had their unbeaten Premier League run trashed by Chelsea in Monday’s derby as Nicolas Jackson scored a second half hat-trick for the visitors.

However, Tottenham still took plenty of plaudits despite the 4-1 defeat after impressing first with 10-men after Cristian Romero was sent off and then with just nine players as Destiny Udogie quickly followed.

Instead of reshuffling and reorganising to Chelsea’s two-man advantage, Spurs maintained their high defensive line and limited Mauricio Pochettino’s side to running in behind.

Eric Dier – who made his first league appearance of the season as a substitute – was involved in numerous footraces with Jackson as the hosts sought to hold on, albeit unsuccessfully.

Postecoglou hailed his team’s resilience after the game and stressed Tottenham won’t change their approach while he is in charge.

‘It’s just who we are and who we are going to be as long as I am here. We go down to five men mate and we will have a crack,’ said Postecoglou after the game.

‘We were very close to getting that equaliser and that shows the spirit and character.

‘They have shown that since day one with the challenges they have overcome but it was just a bridge too far today,’ he added.

The wild end to the match presented Tottenham with a potential late equaliser that was pulled wide by captain Son Heung-min before Chelsea raced up the other end and scored.

Postecoglou has broken barriers with his no-nonsense approach to post-match media duties and was again praised by Carragher for helping produce a ‘box office’ derby clash.

‘I have been watching football for almost 40 years and as a neutral I would say one of most enjoyable games I have seen.

‘Absolutely box office and that is why Premier League is the best in the world by an absolute country mile.
