{"id":298416,"date":"2023-11-06T11:24:14","date_gmt":"2023-11-06T11:24:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sportstons.com\/?p=298416"},"modified":"2023-11-06T11:24:14","modified_gmt":"2023-11-06T11:24:14","slug":"sri-lanka-batsman-angelo-mathews-is-timed-out-at-the-world-cup","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sportstons.com\/%d1%81ricket\/sri-lanka-batsman-angelo-mathews-is-timed-out-at-the-world-cup\/","title":{"rendered":"Sri Lanka batsman Angelo Mathews is TIMED OUT at the World Cup"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Sri Lanka&#8217;s Angelo Mathews becomes the first batsman ever in international cricket to be TIMED OUT&#8230; as he wasn&#8217;t ready to face his first ball two minutes after the last fall of wicket<\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>He is the first batsman in 146 years of international cricket to be given timed out<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>His helmet broke when he was at the crease and he couldn&#8217;t get another in time<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Angelo Mathews pleaded with the umpires but they upheld Bangladesh&#8217;s appeal\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Sri Lanka&#8217;s Angelo Mathews became the first international cricketer in history to be given timed out at the ICC World Cup on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Mathews, like all batsmen at the tournament, was required to face his first delivery against Bangladesh no more than two minutes after the fall of the last wicket.<\/p>\n<p>ICC rules differ slightly to the MCC&#8217;s official laws, which state that the batter must be ready to go within in three minutes instead of two.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Had the World Cup followed Lord&#8217;s rules, Mathews may have been ready to face the next delivery following Sadeera Samarawickrama&#8217;s dismissal at 135\/4.<\/p>\n<p>However, Bangladeshi fielders saw the batsman was not ready to face Shakib Al Hasan&#8217;s next ball within the required two-minute timeframe and thus called for timed out. The decision was ultimately upheld by the on-field umpires.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/06\/10\/77452291-12715207-image-a-33_1699267124656.jpg\" height=\"450\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Angelo Mathews became the first international cricketer ever to be given timed out on Monday<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/06\/11\/77453253-12715207-image-a-34_1699268616666.jpg\" height=\"462\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Mathews&#8217; helmet broke in chaotic circumstances and he was unable to secure a new one before his two-minute timeframe ran out.
