The Premier League is a truly international competition these days and American involvement is no exception. At the start of the 2023-24 season, eight US stars were set to be involved up and down the country. Arsenal’s former youth prospect Folarin Balogun is not one of them, however. He may have switched his international allegiance to the USMNT in the summer but he is now playing his club football for Monaco in Ligue 1. Here’s a look at how the remaining eight are getting on this season, with some vastly contrasting results.

Ethan Horvath – Nottingham Forest

USMNT goalkeeper Ethan Horvath may be a Nottingham Forest player in name but he won’t be catching a ball at the City Ground or anywhere else until at least January by the looks of it.

The 28-year-old spent last season on loan with Luton Town, but having returned to his parent club he was then omitted from Steve Cooper’s 25-man Premier League club before the start of the new season. No doubt he will be looking for a move as soon as the transfer window reopens.

Antonee Robinson – Fulham

Full-back Robinson was linked with a move to Manchester City in the summer but he clearly loves playing on the Thames as he instead signed a new long-term deal with Marco Silva’s West London outfit.

The 25-year-old has made 11 appearances in all competitions so far this season including seven in the Premier League. Fulham are currently 14th in the table but well in touch with the top half.

Tim Ream – Fulham

Another US troop from Marco Silva’s unit. Centre-back Ream had surgery on a fractured arm in May but is now back in action. He has made nine Premier League appearances this season and scored against Manchester City in September, although the champions went on to win the match 5-1.

The veteran was praised last month for the care and attention he showed Sheffield United’s Chris Basham after the defender broke his ankle in a match between the two sides last month.

Chris Richards – Crystal Palace

Former Bayern Munich defender Richards made the switch to Selhurst Park on a five-year deal in the summer of 2022. He only made nine league appearances last season but has three to his name already this term. Still only 23, he could have a bigger role to play as the season progresses.

Tyler Adams – Bournemouth

After being relegated with Leeds United last season, Adams joined Bournemouth on a five-year deal, but the USMNT captain had already seen his 2022-23 campaign curtailed with a hamstring injury that required surgery.

Unfortunately, that problem appears to have returned. Adams made his debut against Stoke City in the Carabao Cup on September 27 as a second-half substitute but is already back on the sidelines for the foreseeable future after suffering another ‘setback’.

Matt Turner – Nottingham Forest

Former Arsenal keeper Turner left the Gunners for the City Ground in the summer and has gone on to become Steve Cooper’s first-choice gloveman. The 29-year-old has started all of Forest’s 10 Premier League matches so far this season, with the team currently sitting 16th in the table.

He may not be with a club challenging for the title anymore but at least he is getting a game.

Don’t miss…
