Former Manchester United player Marouane Fellaini is set to retire from football at the end of the season after his coach opened up on the veteran’s difficulties in carrying on playing. The towering Belgian, known for his trademark bushy hairstyle and aerial prowess, is poised to walk away from the game at the age of 35 after spending several years in the Premier League.

Fellaini, who currently plays in China for Shandong Taishan, is set to end his long career in the game when the Chinese football season concludes this weekend, according to his manager.

Shandong will face Henan FC on Saturday as Chinese Super League season draws to a close, and head coach Choi Kang-hee confirmed Fellaini’s impending retirement with a worrying comment about his fitness.

“Though with some regret, I respect his decision to retire. He is a very great player,” Choi said, as reported by Chinese news agency Xinhua. “Maybe due to his age, his every post-game recovery was rather painstaking, which usually took one day or two.”
