Listen here to It&#8217;s All Kicking Off\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Manchester United&#8217;s dismal season plunged to new depths on Wednesday night, with Erik ten Hag&#8217;s men dumped out of the Carabao Cup following a 3-0 loss to Newcastle.<\/p>\n<p>The defeat came three days after United were on the receiving end of the same score in the Manchester derby and means Ten Hag has now overseen the club&#8217;s worst start to a season in six decades.<\/p>\n<p>United have lost half of their 10 league matches so far this season and are marooned in eighth place on the table, 11 points behind league leaders Tottenham and eight behind fourth-placed Liverpool<\/p>\n<p>Their hopes of qualifying for the knockout stages of the Champions League, meanwhile, hang by a thread after losses to Bayern Munich and Galatasaray.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Problems are mounting for Ten Hag and Gary Neville believes the club&#8217;s rudderless approach could see the Dutchman sacked unless results improve drastically.<\/p>\n<p>It has been a historically bad campaign for United so far, as these stats show.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" defeat in 15 games this season, making this their worst start to a campaign since 1962-63.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In the Premier League alone, United have already lost as many games as Tottenham, Arsenal, Manchester City, Liverpool and Aston Villa combined.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2>A chronic lack of goals\u00a0<\/h2>\n<p>Erling Haaland&#8217;s second goal in the Manchester derby on Sunday was significant and not just because it effectively sealed City&#8217;s win.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The goal was the Norwegian&#8217;s 11th in the current Premier League season, which means he&#8217;s scored as many goals on his own as United have as a team through 10 league games.<\/p>\n<p>United&#8217;s 11 Premier League goals are the least any team currently in the top half of the league has managed this season and less than half of Aston Villa and Newcastle&#8217;s tally.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Between them, Marcus Rashford, Rasmus Hojlund, Alejandro Garnacho, Anthony Martial, Antony and Jadon Sancho have combined one goal and one assists in the Premier League this season.<\/p>\n<p>With four goals in all competitions, Casemiro remains the club&#8217;s leading goalscorer despite missing three matches.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img United&#8217;s home comfort in his first season, as United went unbeaten at home for 31 games after losing to Real Sociedad in September last year.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This season, however, Old Trafford has been far from a fortress.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>United have lost five of their first 10 home games for the first time in 93 years and the defeats to City and Newcastle marked the first time since October 1962 they have lost consecutive home games by three goals or more.<\/p>\n<p>Worryingly, only five of United&#8217;s last 16 goals have come at Old Trafford.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>United have lost five of their first 10 home games for the first time in a whopping 93 years<\/p>\n<h2>Can&#8217;t run, won&#8217;t run\u00a0<\/h2>\n<p>During pre-season tour, Ten Hag said he wanted to turn United into the &#8216;best transition team in the world&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>That has proved to be wishful thinking, with his team looking ponderous in possession and lethargic off the ball.<\/p>\n<p>According to data provided by Opta, United have covered 1,122 kilometres in the Premier League so far this season, the seventh-highest tally in the league and slightly ahead of City&#8217;s 1,119km.<\/p>\n<p>Newcastle and Tottenham have both covered 1,129km each, just ahead of Arsenal with 1,123km, while\u00a0only six teams have covered less ground than Liverpool&#8217;s tally of 1,088km.<\/p>\n<p>Surprisingly, second-bottom Burnley have run the furthest in the Premier League, covering 1,160km, followed by Everton and Brentford with 1,138 and 1,132.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Crucially, however, Lisandro Martinez is United&#8217;s only outfield player to have covered less ground per game than Marcus Rashford and Antony this season.<\/p>\n<p>As Chris League\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2>Travel sickness\u00a0<\/h2>\n<p>While it&#8217;s far from their main issue this season, United are still to beat one of the big six teams away from home under Ten Hag.<\/p>\n<p>United conceded a combined 18 goals on trips to the Etihad, Anfield, the Emirates and Tottenham last season and have already lost 3-1 away at Arsenal this term.<\/p>\n<p>Under Ten Hag, United haven&#8217;t beaten any of the current top 10 teams in the Premier League away from home.
