{"id":297536,"date":"2023-10-30T01:14:12","date_gmt":"2023-10-30T01:14:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sportstons.com\/?p=297536"},"modified":"2023-10-30T01:14:12","modified_gmt":"2023-10-30T01:14:12","slug":"luis-diazs-father-is-rescued-from-a-kidnapping-in-colombia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sportstons.com\/soccer\/luis-diazs-father-is-rescued-from-a-kidnapping-in-colombia\/","title":{"rendered":"Luis Diaz&apos;s father is &apos;rescued from a kidnapping in Colombia&apos;"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Luis Diaz&#8217;s father is &#8216;rescued from a kidnapping in Colombia&#8217; after a shootout left two abductors dead&#8230; hours after his mother was also reported to be rescued<\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Luis Diaz&#8217;s father has reportedly been rescued from a kidnapping in Colombia\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>His rescue is yet to be officially confirmed, but two abductors are believed dead\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Diaz&#8217;s mother was also rescued after the ordeal in the\u00a0Barrancas, La Guajira<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Luis Diaz&#8217;s dad has reportedly been rescued from a kidnapping during a shootout which left two of his captors dead hours after the footballer&#8217;s mum was freed from her ordeal.<\/p>\n<p>The search had continued for Luis Manuel Diaz after Cilenis Marulanda was rescued following a police chase triggered by the kidnap of the Liverpool star&#8217;s parents on Saturday afternoon near their home in the town of Barrancas in Colombia&#8217;s Caribbean region.<\/p>\n<p>Reports in local media in the La Guajira region, which Barrancas forms part of, say the striker&#8217;s dad has now been freed following a shootout with police which resulted in the deaths of two of the four kidnappers.<\/p>\n<p>The incident is said to have happened near to an area called los Barrancones as the captors headed towards Colombia&#8217;s border with Venezuela with the intention of smuggling him into the neighbouring country.<\/p>\n<p>There has not yet been any official confirmation Luis Diaz&#8217;s dad has also been rescued. His mum was pictured overnight enjoying a tearful reunion with relatives.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/29\/09\/77128921-0-The_star_s_mother_pictured_in_2019_has_been_rescued_but_his_fath-a-17_1698570539388.jpg\" height=\"785\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Luis Diaz&#8217;s father (Luis Manuel Diaz, pictured in 2019) has reportedly been rescued from a kidnapping during a shootout, though it has not been officially confirmed<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/29\/09\/77128405-0-The_parents_of_Luis_Diaz_are_believed_to_have_been_kidnapped_in_-a-18_1698570586839.jpg\" height=\"430\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>The parents of Luis Diaz were believed to have been kidnapped in his Colombian hometown and his mother was reported to have been rescued first\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The reports emerged as a man described as the best friend of Luis Manuel Diaz told a Colombian radio station the footballer&#8217;s dad and his wife had been heading to the home of a relative of Cilenis near a petrol station where they had just filled up their car with fuel when they were taken hostage.<\/p>\n<p>Victor Medina said: &#8216;It was 5.30pm local time on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;They had filled up with petrol and then went to a neighbourhood nearby to collect something from a relative of Celinis.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;There the captors arrived, four men on motorbikes.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;They threatened them with weapons, made them get into the same vehicle and sped off with the other two on a motorbike tailing them. They headed for a rural area.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;The authorities were informed and there was a chase.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Responding to claims there was an exchange of gunfire before Cilenis was rescued, Mr Medina said: &#8216;I haven&#8217;t had the chance to speak to her yet.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;It&#8217;s a difficult situation.
