Mikel Arteta said his players’ dressing room reaction told him they were far from satisfied despite salvaging a draw at Chelsea from 2-0 down.

Late goals from Declan Rice and Leandro Trossard wiped out the two-goal cushion Chelsea had established through Cole Palmer’s first-half penalty and Mykhailo Mudryk’s mis-hit cross early in the second half.

Arsenal were second best for most of the game and managing to rescue a point at the home of their London rivals to maintain their unbeaten league start might well have been a cause for celebration.

Arsenal mounted a stunning late comeback to take a point against Chelsea despite falling two goals behind in the capital

Cole Palmer coolly opened the scoring in the first half from the penalty spot following William Saliba’s handball

Palmer and Raheem Sterling was seen in conversation as they both staked their claim to take Chelsea’s first-half penalty

The forward stepped up to convert with aplomb from 12 yards, sending Raya the wrong way and sparking scenes of jubilation

Trossard was mobbed by his team-mates after his leveller hauled the visitors level and secured them an invaluable point

Declan Rice had kickstarted the comeback after latching onto Robert Sanchez’s poor pass and sweeping home magnificently

But Arteta said: ‘I really liked as well going into the dressing room and it’s really quiet, after drawing 2-2 with Chelsea and coming back from 2-0 down, because I know that they wanted more. That’s the positive.’

Arteta was full of praise for another show of character from his players after they secured a draw from the jaws of defeat.

He said: ‘I have no doubt about that. I could see at half time, it was a knife between our teeth and we had to do better and the game was still there for us. We had that belief.

‘Even with the goal we conceded, we continued to be like this. I loved that about the team and I’m going to demand that from them every single day.

‘This is who we are and the only way to still create a lot of issues with the opponent even when you’re not at your best.’
