{"id":296371,"date":"2023-10-19T19:27:18","date_gmt":"2023-10-19T19:27:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sportstons.com\/?p=296371"},"modified":"2023-10-19T19:27:18","modified_gmt":"2023-10-19T19:27:18","slug":"england-stars-alessia-russo-and-chloe-kelly-dazzle-at-glamour-awards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sportstons.com\/soccer\/england-stars-alessia-russo-and-chloe-kelly-dazzle-at-glamour-awards\/","title":{"rendered":"England stars Alessia Russo and Chloe Kelly dazzle at Glamour Awards"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>England stars Alessia Russo and Chloe Kelly dazzle on the red carpet as the\u00a0Lionesses are honoured for their World Cup run at the\u00a0Glamour Women of the Year Awards<\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The Lionesses were presented with the\u00a0Sports Icons Award at the ceremony<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Kelly and Russo received the award after England&#8217;s run to the World Cup final\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Listen to the latest episode of Mail Sport&#8217;s podcast &#8216;It&#8217;s All Kicking Off!&#8217;<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Alessia Russo and Chloe Kelly were among the England stars to take to the red carpet as the\u00a0Lionesses were honoured at the\u00a0Glamour Women of the Year Awards.<\/p>\n<p>The annual\u00a0annual event celebrates some of the biggest names in biggest names in music, television, film, sport and media.<\/p>\n<p>Russo and\u00a0Kelly were among those in attendance at the awards, which were held at\u00a0London&#8217;s One Marylebone on Tuesday night.<\/p>\n<p>Manchester City forward Kelly was pictured on the red carpet in a\u00a0three-piece dress under an open jacket.<\/p>\n<p>England team-mate and new Arsenal star Russo instead opted for a tailored black suit and bandeau top.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/18\/08\/76694405-12643535-image-a-35_1697615090628.jpg\" height=\"890\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Chloe Kelly was among the England stars to take to the red carpet at the\u00a0Glamour Women of The Year Awards<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/18\/08\/76694543-12643535-image-a-36_1697615093795.jpg\" height=\"978\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>England and Arsenal striker\u00a0Alessia Russo also attended the awards ceremony which was held at\u00a0One Marylebone in London on Tuesday<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/18\/08\/76695415-12643535-image-a-33_1697614372979.jpg\" height=\"421\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Kelly, Bethany England, Jess Carter and Russo received the Sport Icons Award on behalf of the England team at the event in honour of their run to the Women&#8217;s World Cup final<\/p>\n<p>Your browser does not support iframes.<\/p>\n<p>Russo and Kelly were joined by England team-mates Bethany England and Jess Carter for the ceremony.<\/p>\n<p>The quartet accepted the Sports Icons Award on behalf of the England team at the ceremony, with Glamour magazine honouring the squad for their run to the Women&#8217;s World Cup final.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0Lionesses, the reigning European champions, reached the final for the first time in their history.<\/p>\n<p>England&#8217;s run included a memorable 3-1 win over tournament co-hosts Australia in the semi-final.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Sarina Wiegman&#8217;s England team ultimately suffered a heartbreaking 1-0 defeat to Spain in the final in Australia in August.<\/p>\n<p>Geri Halliwell Horner, who presented the award, said the &#8216;extraordinary and historic&#8217; England team were &#8216;changing the face of an entire sport&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>The team were praised for helping to attract\u00a0record-breaking crowds to the the women&#8217;s game, while the final itself was watched by 12 million people on the BBC.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/18\/08\/76696007-12643535-image-a-43_1697615769005.jpg\" height=\"422\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Russo scored in England&#8217;s memorable 3-1 win over Australia to secure a place in the final<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/18\/08\/76695997-12643535-image-a-42_1697615630964.jpg\" height=\"440\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>England ultimately fell short with Spain winning 1-0 in the final in Sydney back in August<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Us girls probably don&#8217;t realise the impact we have on many young girls&#8217; lives,&#8217; said Kelly when accepting the award.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;But this award is not just for women&#8217;s football, it&#8217;s for every woman involved in sport; those who have paved the way that came before us, and left the shirt in a better place for us, and allowed us the platform to achieve great things \u2013 this award is for them.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Alessia Russo added: &#8216;To do that we need to keep raising performance levels and gain the recognition we deserve.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;We have to dig deep and stick together as a team, like many realms of life.
